Enjoying the Phillips, Crusie-like and quite good. The McCaffrey was too YA for me - just couldn't get into it at all. The Stewart is my outright favourite of hers - gets a re-read at least once a year. Read the Heyer with the list. Didn't really like the Bell that much, not as good as his hype.

The Schama were interesting but I'm disappointed he spent so little time on the period in vol 1 (3000BC to 1601) jamming in whole dynasties in a couple of pages (Wars of the Roses anyone??? - I think Richard III got two sentences!) and then spending mind-bogglingly boring amounts of time on the 1640s Civil War and the American Wars in vol 2 (1601 - 1776). Haven't opened vol 3 yet.
