Cat assimilation query
Dec. 29th, 2011 12:30 pmBack in February we rescued two female Rex cats, a 5yo Cornish named Tango and a 5.5yo Devon named Jini. They were raised together and had been part of a house of 11 cats. Divorce and loss of house ensued and they were thrown on the mercy of the public. After 3 months a (relatively) local organisation called Rex Rescue advertised them on their fb page. As we were looking for Rexes in particular we adopted them and they have settled in quite well.
As I mentioned in my previous pos, our problem has just arrived at the house. She is a 10yo Cornish Rex named Sheba who we got from Rex Rescue on Tuesday. She is a little toey with other cats and I was wondering if any of you had any tips for integrating another cat into a household. Our previous boys (passed from old age two years ago) were acquired as kittens so we've never really done the 'adult cats don't like each other' thing before.
Do you, my flist, have any words of wisdom ('cause your words tend to have that quality) to help the blended household? I'd really appreciate any insights anyone might have.

Dreamwidth here I come
Dec. 27th, 2011 10:39 pmI'm in the process of importing my journal entries to my DW account and adding as many of you as I can find to my circle. If you're on DW and cross-posting here I will probably be de-friending you here on LJ to avoid double-ups. If you're on DW and I haven't added you to my circle yet, drop me a line so we can connect.
Well here I am
Dec. 27th, 2011 10:18 pmI'm in the middle of the import process, tidying up my flist and all that, moving over here from now on. I will probably still read some stuff on lj but most of you seem to be posting here and only cross-posting there. Although it looks like my baking community and bujold-fic don't exist here yet, so I'll be reading for that at least.
Now and Forever
Dec. 16th, 2011 10:09 amA poem for my husband. With appropriate thanks to Richard Marx for the lyrics, adapted for our story (apologies for the messed-up metre):
Whenever I'm weary from the battles that rage in my head
You make sense of madness when my sanity hangs by a thread
I lose my way but still you always understand
Now and forever you will be my man
Sometimes I just hold you too caught up in me to see
I'm holding a treasure that Fortune has given to me
I'll try to show you each and every way I can
Now and forever you will be my man
Love, I can rest my worries and always be sure
That I won't be alone evermore
I'm so glad that I've known you were there all the time, all this time
Until the day the ocean doesn't touch the sand
Now and forever you will be my man
John. I love you.

Love, I can rest my worries and always be sure

Harassment and Gaslighting
Dec. 6th, 2011 04:16 pmA couple of things that have crossed my radar this week that I thought needed wider dissemination:

Oct. 23rd, 2011 01:39 pmJohn is away down the coast with our friend John. They seem to be doing a heap of walking on the beach with the dogs, drinking whisky and watching war movies.
We here at home are sitting kniiting in armchairs with cats on our laps, drinking sloe gin and tokay (not together - eeek!) and watching movies with hot actors - Jeremy Northam, Kenneth Branagh, Mathew MacFadyen, Toby Stephens, Colin Firth.
Wonder who is having more fun?

Birthday present
Aug. 28th, 2011 09:51 pmReceived these for my birthday:

http://t2tea.com/tea-ware/tea-cups/crackle-tcup-green/
together with a box of Earl Grey.
Absolutely loving the tea adventures. Brewed masala chai is my current favourite, having a pot every night before bed.

I now have my new glasses - single vision lenses for close-up work, reading, knitting, computer.
Only I can't see the telly and knit at the same time while wearing them so I think I may have to get bifocals after all. I'll give them a little while to see if I can get used to them - they're a bit big for perching on the end of my nose, though.

Absurdly pleased with myself
Jun. 3rd, 2011 07:25 pmI've got my new laptop! And it's beautiful! Spent 4 hours this afternoon migrating stuff off the old one including all my email (had to do the mailboxes individually as they were a bit too big for a bulk effort!) and I'm up and running!! Wheeeeeeee!
OK, it's not brand new but it's at least 7 years younger than my old one - and everything works!!!!!

The two on the right hand end of the top row are right up my alley! They are just begging to be made into the two sides of a knitting bag. I can adapt a cross-stitch chart to a knitting chart, I'm sure.
