X looked round cautiously, as though to be sure that Y was not lurking in the room, and then said in an earnest tone: 'Z, it is the most distressing circumstance! Y is deranged! You would never credit it, I dare say, but I found Y wandering about the garden at midnight, talking of sonnets, and moonlight, and such stuff!'
Z lowered Z gaze swiftly and faltered: 'Did you, X? How - how very strange to be sure!'
'I was never more shocked in my life!' declared X. 'I had not the least notion of such a thing, and I must say that I think Q has not behaved as Q should in concealing it from me!'
'It is very dreadful!' agreed Z. 'Yet Y seems quite sane, X!'
'Y seems sane now,' said X darkly.
So who are X, Y and Z - and Q as well?
Which book?
What, exactly, did Y do to make X think Y deranged?
and the bonus punch - what was Y really doing?
