I absolutlely HATEHATEHATEHATE it when I see someone abbreviate Shakespeare to "Shax". AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

A relative newbie on the main LMB list is using it a bit (discussing Shakespearian references in Falling Free et al.).

Some of the younger members of the Heyer and Branagh ists use it too. Blechh!

The first few times I saw it in his posts all I could think of was that blacksploitation movie from the 80s(?). I didn't see the movie but saw references to it.

I confess that at first I had no idea what he was talking about.

And now my attitude to it is, "If somebody has to reread context three times to work out what on EARTH you're talking about, your attempt at abbreviation has FAILED."

I don't disagree with you at all. That's just not a good abbreviation.
