Today I made two varieties of Oatmeal Cookies from a recipe I ran across in a book I read this weekend. So we have Cranberry/White Chocolate/Pistachio and Cranberry/White Chocolate/Macadamia. Recipe made lots, we have 3 dozen of each although they are smaller than commercial size I would guess. To spark the flavour up a bit I added the zest from a tangello to the macadamia ones and a quarter teaspoon of cardamom to the pistachio ones. And because it was a USian recipe I used my USian measuring cups and spoons, courtesy of [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].

Those cookies sound good.

Having measuring devices that match your recipes is nice. I once got one of my friend's in Australia to send me a set of measuring spoons because I have a large stack of Australian cookbooks that I use a lot and I was sick of having to remember to convert the tablespoon measurements. That effort was a complete failure. The measuring spoons may have come from Australia, but they were based on American tablespoons.

Well if you'd like to email me your snail-mail address I will happily send you a proper set. I sent cups and spoons to Meg in the last white chocolate care package

I'll gladly take you up on that offer. I never had the heart to tell my poor friend that what she sent me wasn't what it was supposed to be. Is there something I can send you in return?

No probs (as they say here), just let me know where to send them. Actually, one thing I've been unable to get easily is butterscotch chips - can you get those? - we have the milk, white or dark chocolate chips but none of the other flavours. You mentioned you have lots of Australian cookbooks - are there any you know of that you can't get?

I sent you an e-mail with my address earlier today. At least I hope I sent it to the right place.

I haven't looked for butterscotch chips lately, but I'm pretty sure I can get them easily. Let me know where to send them. They're aren't any rules against sending butterscotch chips into Australia, are there? I can't imagine why they'd be a problem, but import laws can be strange.

Thanks for asking about other cookbooks. I'm sure there are others I'd like, but I did a good job of staying away from cookbooks when I was in Australia, so I didn't see any to covet. The ones I have are a series of "step by step" books put out by Bay Books. They keep turning up on the discount racks at Borders Books for $3 each and I've bought all of the ones I've seen except the one on mixed drinks, which don't interest me at all. They're full of interesting recipes that actually work and taste good.

Glad they were of use. The Aussie cookbook and measuring set you sent me has been of use as well!

Ooh, I'd forgotten about the cookbook! Remind me which book it was - and would you like another in with the sweater?

It's "Easy Australian Style." And, sure [g]. Anything you need from this end to stick in with the quilt?
